The Peninsula Tour de Cure for 2010 is a cycling event which starts and finishes in Menlo Park at Hewlett Packard at 3000 Hanover Street, and the event date is Sunday, June 13, 2010.
The first riders head out at 6:30 am, and the course is closed at 4:00 pm. Riders are sponsored, and raise money for the American Diabetes Association.
This is a challenging event for radio operators. This is an opportunity to test your readiness skills for a long day of operation. Volunteers on motorcycles will be keeping track of riders. Volunteers will be accompanying SAG wagons looking for tired or injured riders. We need volunteers at the rest/water stops to report on any needs or injuries at those locations. Because of the challenging terrain for the racers, we have challenging terrain for the radio operators, with lots of dead spots in various canyons. As a result we need experienced operators to set up and operate at remote locations, relaying transmissions from the canyons to Net Control in Palo Alto.
All volunteers need good radios, good (and extra) batteries, food, water, and clothing appropriate for whatever weather falls upon us. In addition, to comply with new safety regulations, all volunteers at Rest Stops and accompanying SAG Wagons should have ANSI-approved vests (ANSI-107 or ANSI-207). Net Control will have vests to loan for those volunteers needing a vest.
Note, to reduce confusion when talking to the rest of the Tour volunteers, we've adopted the commonly used names for the Rest Stops & Water Stops.
NOTE: I have removed the "Air Times" for our SAGs and SAG Accompanies. Paul (this year's SAG Chief) will be sending out a spreadsheet letting you know what time we'd like you to report to Comms.

After the course closes at 4:00 pm, a sweep will be made to determine if there are riders still on the course. Any final requests for support or the SAG wagon will be made at that time. All radio operators should be off duty by 5:30 pm. However, many of the Rest Stops close much earlier (see Rest Stop Locations for approximate closing times).
